2022 Writing Competition: Gender Equality

The stepping stone toward a more equal world, gender equality refers to access to opportunities, roles, and resources that are  uninfluenced by gender. Fundamental to a more sustainable and integrated society, gender equality has been a matter that has prompted many waves of discourse throughout history. Yet, attaining such a goal continues to face setbacks, with ancient notions of prejudice and stereotypes still remaining prevalent. Recent waves of protests continue to illustrate such gaps, with laws that fail to reproductive health rights or the #MeToo movement. Women continue to face sexual assault/harassment, domestic violence, the Pink Tax and the gender wage gap, Mommy Track, child marriages, and unequal access to roles of power and influence.

Our theme for the 2022 round hopes to invite youth from all over the world to discuss the notion of gender inequality, including its implications, history, and the stereotypes that shape it. We hope to transform thoughts and ideas through various mediums and inspire action, carrying forth the universal truth that we are all equal.
